Week 4 (Edited)

Tuesday:  Stuffed Animal Day

Today we started with our name puzzles, the kid matched the letters in their names with a template.  The next step will be to unscramble the letters without the template.  We did our morning routine including days of the week, months of the year, weather, and question of the day.  The kids also took turns introducing their stuffed animal friends to the class. After our morning routine the animals were tired, so we made them beds from boxes and fabric. The kids decorated the beds and we put the animals down for a nap.  After that I hid ten ghosts with the numbers 1-10 around the room the kids scattered to find them and we put them in numeric order.  We practiced counting up to 10 and down from 10.  We then read 4 books about bears and got ready for our teddy bear picnic.  The kids helped spread out a picnic blanket and hand out our snack plates to everyone.  We woke up the animals and they joined us for snack!  We listened to the song "Teddy Bear picnic" and talked about if that could really happen and what it would be like.  After that we sang songs and got ready to go home.

Thursday:  My Many Moods:

Today we practiced tracing our names on paper with q tips and paint.  We then did our morning routine and we drew Ruby's name as our first student to take home Fluffy the bunny.  On tuesday she will share her weekend with Fluffy with us!  We then read several books about emotions and talked about our different moods.  We sang if you are happy/ sad/ angry and you know it...  The kids had a good time coming up with different actions for each of the different moods.  We also talked about looking at other people to see how they are feeling, and using words to tell others how we are feeling. We practiced using sentences that start with "I feel"  We also introduced capital A we sang "the A says AH" and the kids all took a turn tracing the A on the white board.  Then they traced it on their own worksheet.  They also made a "My emotions" book and they all cut it out themselves.  It was the first time for many using scissors and I am excited to see them improve and the year goes by!
