September
Tuesday: We started the day by playing playdough until all our
friends arrived. Then we headed to circle time where the students buzzed their
busy bees to the beehive while we practiced our welcome song. We learned
the Days of the Week song, Months of the year song, and checked outside to
study the weather.
Then we read: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?
The students picked out their favorite animals and we read it again so
they could notice and say their favorites as we read.
We enjoyed snack and free play then came back upstairs to
create busy bee hats!
We ended preschool with our songs. I love Laurie
Berkner and we use several of her songs every day. Rocketship Run, The
Goldfish Song, and We are the Dinosaurs. The kids did a great job
learning the movements for each of the songs.
Thursday: Today we read the book Rainbow Fish, our activities centered around fish, the color blue, and introducing squares.
We started off with duplos until all the kids arrived. The morning calendar routine is going great. We practiced counting 1-5 with some numbered fish. I gave each child three different sized blue paper squares. We practiced sorting them from big to little and reverse. I gave them different instructions like, "tickle the small square" or "Karate Chop the medium square". We all had fun with that activity. After that I hid all the blue squares around the room and they had to find them and sort them into big, medium, small. At snack we practiced making stick pretzels into squares. We read the Rainbow Fish and talked about sharing. The kids all love dancing, for one of the songs we go to different parts of the room, below is a picture of all the kids racing to a star on the wall. I also introduced our question of the day. That is the green and blue pocket chart with the YES/NO written above them. Today I asked them if they like ice cream. They have to find their name and put it in the right pocket. We will talk a little about graphing, opinions, and counting with this exercise through the year. We did a worksheet and a Rainbow fish craft to end the day!
