Weeks 26

Tuesday, March 28
Today we talked about the sun.  We talked about the importance of sunscreen. We painted paper plates yellow and then practiced cutting skills on the edges.  We talked about the letter R as in Ruby! We did a matching worksheet.  We also talked about all the great thing the sun does for us like, help plants grow, makes the earth warm, and gives us vitamin d.  I forgot to take pictures.

Thursday, March 30
Today we talked about the rain, which was a perfect for a windy, rainy day!  We started with an experiment about clouds: I filled cups with water and then topped them off with shaving cream.  Then the kids used droppers to put in colored water.  The shaving cream became saturated and then the colored water looked and acted like rain falling from the shaving the cream.  The kids all enjoyed this activity. We read several books about the rain.  The kids enjoyed cloudy with the chance of meatballs the most!  We talked about what we would like clouds to rain besides water!  most people agreed gently falling puppies would be great!  We revisited the letter R by making it into a rain cloud.

Friday,  March 31
We read several fun books today including a 1970s children's book called "And the Wind Blew".  We made paintings using straws to blow the paint around the paper.  It was an art project more about the process than the end result, the kids enjoyed doing it.  The kids also used straws to blow a cotton ball back and forth between two people.  They were trying to get the cotton ball closer to their opponent! The kids did really well with this game even though it had a winner/loser.  Not winning is really great practice for kindergarten! We also did an experiment where we put water, oil, and glitter in a bottle and took turns spinning it to create a tornado!  We also played a board game where students raced to the number 14 by flipping a coin with the number 1 on one side and 2 on the other.  The kids filled in either 1 or 2 squares per turn until they finished the game. It was a challenging activity but fun!
